Here are some basic tips for preventive maintenance:

Be sure to read your owner's manual completely. This manual will include procedures and recommendations on maintenance to be performed.

Gym owners should assess fitness equipment for maintenance on a daily basis. This recommendation is just because there is so much that can go wrong in a fitness facility each given day. A walk-through each day will help identify potential problems and concerns and insurance liability issues before they arise into a more serious matter. To keep your equipment clean, dirt, dust and sweat can damage your machines and interfere with the performance. Make sure to use a cloth with a non-abrasive cleaner to wipe down your equipment.

The area around your machines should be also kept clean. Be sure to clean and vacuum the floor around your equipment and for some equipment, such as treadmills, be sure to vacuum under the motor cover.

When replacing parts insure that they are from the same manufacturer or in other words (OEM) Original Equipment Manufacturer, you are requesting parts for.

By regularly lubricating certain parts of your machines, you decrease friction. Friction can cause a moving part to overheat and cause serious damage.

Clean the frames of all strength equipment. Inspect that all screws and bolts are tight. Inspect all cables for tears, sharp edges, safety concerns and put out of order, if you think that it is a liability safety issue.

Be sure to check all belts and cables regularly. If you notice any tears or frays, contact The Gym Doctor immediately. We will schedule an appointment with you on a date and time convenient for you. We will custom make replacement gym cables. Ask for Michael Mullins.
